Transitions Real Estate

Our goal is to treat your entire transition with reverence. We will educate you, openly communicate with you, advocate for you and follow the basic tenants of asset management: buy low, sell high and steer clear of a bad investment!

Who We Are

We’re Katharine Pickering and Robyn Lewis-Oglesby, co-founders of K&R Home Transitions. We have spent decades advocating for folks like you; managing their financial assets — whether through your investments or in your banking.

After buying and selling homes in our personal lives, we realized how little individuals know about the purchase or sale of one of their largest assets – their home. That’s why we made the switch to real estate: to help folks better manage this amazing asset.

Katharine brings an international flair to the team and home buying experience. She obtained her degree in economics from the London City University followed by French Cordon Bleu cooking classes. Her early years were spent traveling the world as an executive chef. Upon marrying, she and her husband Derek settled in California where she combined her client service experience and her economics degree by helping both individuals and families in the home loan and loan appraisal areas of banking.

It was then that she began to realize that she could do more for these individuals and families and play a much bigger part in helping them find and move into their home.

After taking some time off to raise her family, she returned to the housing industry – this time to Real Estate. Having created a home for her husband and family, she realized that a home is much more than 4 walls. It is where memories are built, it is a safe haven, and it is very much a big investment. As an investment it can build equity and can eventually become the springboard to an investment property portfolio among other things.

As a Realtor, Kat believes in going above and beyond for her clients – she will leave “no stone unturned” in making sure the home is the right home for her buyers, and she will work tirelessly to get her clients’ homes sold. She is continually learning, having recently obtaining her Home Staging Expert designation so she is now personally qualified to help her clients present their homes in the best possible light.

In 2010 Katharine was extremely proud to become a US Citizen.

After over 30 years as a financial adviser, advocating for and helping individuals and families build financial security, Robyn retired. However, she was not yet ready to stop working and helping individuals and families.

After buying and selling several homes, she realized how much she did not know about the real estate process. It was a little unnerving because for many individuals, a home is their largest asset. In fact, it is more than just a financial asset. A home houses your memories. A home is representative of your hopes, dreams, and accomplishments. As a financial asset, it can grow equity for you. In a volatile market or during challenging times, the equity in a home can help bolster your financial security.

Robyn went back to school and learned everything she could. As an asset, and for all that a home represents, she believes individuals should work with an advocate and should follow the basic investment principles of “Buy low, Sell high” and avoid making a bad investment. Robyn wants to earn the right to be that advocate.

In 2008 Robyn received a phone call which would impact her market focus. Her Dad had just been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and he was the caregiver for her Mom who had Dementia. As she and her bothers and sisters took on the caregiving role, she learned firsthand the struggles of being a caregiver, the challenges of finding alternative housing and selling a property from an estate. It forever changed her to be driven to help Seniors and their adult children navigate housing and living situations for the Senior community.

The mantra of K&R Home Transitions is to Educate, Communicate and Advocate and Robyn takes that to heart with every Senior and their family that she works with.

In addition to being a broker associate and Realtor®, she is Senior Real Estate Specialist, A Probate Real Estate Specialist, a Chartered Adviser for Senior Living and a Certified Living In Place Professional. She has several other Real Estate and Financial designations and is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA.

About The Area

Parker, Castle Rock, Franktown, Sedalia and Elizabeth are located in Douglas County with easy access to the Denver metropolitan area. They are known for their unique hometown feel.

These areas are rich in history. Gold was discovered in Colorado in 1858 and in the next year more than 100,000 people followed the trails here in search of their fortunes. Small towns and settlements sprang up as the focus changed from gold to land. Parker demonstrates this by the number of dairy farms that were in the area and a fortunate few began irrigating crops from ditches connected to Cherry Creek. Parker granted right of ways for future roads, ditches, telephone lines, and eventually the Denver and New Orleans Railroad. Franktown houses many interesting archeological remains, farm tools, mining remnants, and more at their museum located in an old one-room schoolhouse.

In Sedalia, due to the plentiful pine lumber, a little community sprang up here where the creeks meet. The flowing waters of the two Plum Creeks made it an ideal place to hold cattle for a big cattle drive into Denver. Sedalia was first known as “Round Corral” for the structure between the creeks.

What’s now Elizabeth began simply as a sawmill camp along the bank of Running Creek in 1855. It eventually became prosperous thanks to farming, cattle ranching, and logging.

All of these towns, and we have only mentioned a few in Douglas County that have great historical stories and provide wonderful towns to explore and experience not only the indoor but outdoor lifestyle that many people moving to Colorado enjoy.

Recreation

Recreational opportunities surround us everywhere in Douglas County. When you feel like exploring more of natures beauty, take a hike in Castlewood Canyon State Park. Carved out of the Black Forest, the park’s landscape features sheer canyon walls, rolling trails and the remains of the century-old Castlewood Canyon Dam. Around the ruins lies miles of scenic hiking trails, numerous technical rock-climbing routes and excellent bird-watching areas. Alternatively, slip on your running shoes for a cruise down many of the trails that surround you.

Many of these towns are a favorite stop for bikers of both the motorized and the fat-tire variety. All of these areas are close to Recreation Centers, tennis centers with indoor and outdoor tennis courts, indoor pools and water slides and in those hot summer months outdoor pools for all ages are popular too. The recreation centers also boasts a sauna, triple gymnasiums, three multipurpose rooms, extensive cardiovascular and weight equipment, aerobics facilities, cycling studio, sports and fitness classes, an inline hockey rink and a skateboard park, indoor track and racketball courts. And for outdoor play, there are lighted ball fields, batting cages, multiple playgrounds and several multipurpose sports fields. There’s also many options for those of us who love golf.

Shopping & Dining

Enjoy some of the best shopping and dining along the Front Range, including Park Meadows Mall, the shopping centers along Parker Road and Founders Parkway, and the Castle Rock Outlet Mall. There are Colorado gourmet dining experiences at multiple restaurants, some with amazing panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains. Many other more casual restaurants are also available ranging from fast food to casual family sit-down.

The Movedo Generation of multi-purpose themes is here. In a marketplace volatile you need to build confident themes.
